Electrical equipment that is used in the patient’s environment or with applied parts, vary according to leakage current relating to the permissible norms by predefined limits (<100μA in normal operation). Under special condition these values can exceed those limits when they are used in a medical electrical system (MES) according to EN 60601-1-1. Device types of classes BF and CF are normally supporting the necessary, but several changes to the power supply of the systems have to be made when those devices are combined with electrical equipment or systems outside the medical used area or patient’s environment.

The medical isolating transformers provide extra protection for patients, users and devices connected to each other. As a leakage current limitation the fulfillment of the requirements for the maximum earth leakage current (normal operation NC <100μA and single fault condition SFC <500μA) becomes possible using the isolation transformers. All devices are also usable for the operation outside medical facilities and rooms.
